SUMMARY:Domestic Emergency Preparedness
DESCRIPTION:It seems we are in an age with an increasing numbers of emergency events\, from storms\, fires\, flood\, drought and power outages.  Join us for an important two hours of discussion on preparing your home and your family for any disaster.\nThe workshop will cover a broad scope of potential situations – not only wildfires\, storms\, floods and drought but significant or extended service disruptions such as a long grid-down events and food or fuel shortages.  Discussion may cover the potential for neighbourhood refuge centres\, as well as the possible need for evacuation bags and supplies.  Water conservation techiques during periods of drought may also be discussed. \nSpecial guest Emad Aziz\, Director of Emergency Management\, HRM Emergency Management and Community Safety\, will be leading the discussion. \nEmad Aziz is the new Director of Emergency Management with the Halifax Regional Municipality’s Community Safety Business Unit. \nEmad has advanced training in the Incident Command System (Level 400) and is a Master Business Continuity Professional. Emad was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee medal by the Government of Nova Scotia for efforts during Hurricane Fiona and Covid-19 pandemic. \nEmad has significant Incident Command and disaster response experience\, having made important contributions in response to recent events such as the West Dalhousie wildfires (2025)\, multi-day winter storm events in Eastern Nova Scotia (2024)\, Shelburne wildfires (2023) and Hurricanes Dorian and Fiona. \nThis two-hour workshop will be held at the Tantallon Public Library on Sunday\, March 29th\, from 2:30 to 4:30pm. \nThis event is free and open to the public.
