DESCRIPTION:Do you want to learn about traditional ways of preserving foods?  The tried and true.\nPlease join us for a fun-filled day of building food resilience.\n \nWe’ll learn why we preserve food & how it relates to our modern world and future. \nMethods covered will include:\nCanning (hot water bath)\,\nDehydrating & Vacuum Packing\,\nFreezing\,\nFruit & Vegetable Cold Storage\, including Basement Root Cellars\,\nFermentation\,\nJams and Jellies. \nExperienced food preservers will demonstrate and explain and answer all you questions.\nThere will be a handout of weblinks to clear instructions for each method as well as lists of supplemental resources.\nYou will gain the knowledge and confidence to do it yourself!\n \nCooking School Kitchen\, Upstairs\, Tantallon Superstore\,  5178 Hwy 3\nCost: $55  –  $30 for half day  –  $30 for youth under 30.\nCoffee\, tea\, and dessert will be provided.  Bring your bagged lunch. \nPreregistration strongly encouraged due to limited space available. SUMMARY:Already Done! -Crossroads Educational Vegetable Garden - Fall Harvest
DESCRIPTION:   \nAlready Done! Already Harvested! A record amounts of veggies were harvested this year – 421 pounds!!!  All the veggies were donated to the St Margarets Bay Food Bank.  The garden was harvested earlier than planned – conditions were such that they just had to be harvested quickly. \n   \nThis garden is maintained by volunteers to inspire the community the benefits of ‘Grow Your Own’ food gardening.  All vegetables are donated to the St Margarets Bay Food Bank. \n  \nThe final 2015 harvest came in at 421 pounds as follows: \nPotatoes (Yukon Gold and Red Chieftain) – 96 lbs. \nOnions (Talon) – 45 lbs. \nBeets (Detroit Red) – 50 lbs. \nCabbage – 28 lbs. \nKale (Borecole) – 50 lbs. \nChard – 38 lbs. \nCarrots (Nantes) – 55 lbs. \nParsnips – 15 lbs. \nRutabagas – 44 lbs. \n\nLet’s us know if you can help with the 2016 Spring Planting ! \nThe garden is maintained by Transition Bay and St Margarets Bay Food Bank volunteers.  For more information\, or if you would like to get more involved:  info@transitionbay.ca     (Note the dates listed by this automated system are just to keep the notice up for a while -the harvest is already done.)
